PPA's EMPOWER program is led by a multidisciplinary team comprised of a Licensed Psychologist and a Speech Language Pathologist specializing in early childhood development. Designed to support the developmental needs of children under age 5, the program offers live parent and caregiver coaching, available in-office, virtually, or through a hybrid format. Grounded in strong research, EMPOWER targets critical areas of early development, including communication, socialization, play, adaptive functioning, and emotional/behavioral regulation.

Through collaborative coaching, parents and caregivers work with our professional coach to establish individualized goals based on the child’s current developmental level. The program is structured around four core modules: Communication, Social/Play Skills, Adaptive Skills, and Behavior. Modules may be completed sequentially or addressed simultaneously, depending on the child's needs. Not all modules are required for every child, and progress varies based on the level of functioning and intervention required. Each week, families receive a video created by a PPA Coach and a corresponding handout from the parent manual, introducing new strategies. During weekly coaching sessions, conducted either in-office or via video conferencing, the coach supports parents and caregivers in practicing these strategies in real-time with their child.

What sets EMPOWER apart is its focus on integrating evidence-based techniques into everyday routines. Whether used as a standalone intervention or in conjunction with other services (e.g., ABA or speech-language therapy), EMPOWER helps families foster meaningful developmental gains and unlock their child’s potential.

This program is available in English and/or Spanish. Ofrecemos este programa en ingles y/o en español.

Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation session, the PPA coach meets with the parents/caregivers to review the child’s developmental history, current levels of functioning, and any concerns regarding the child’s development. The coach may also review any previous evaluations that have been completed. The coach works together with the family to create a treatment plan with individualized goals based on the child’s strengths and needs. This plan becomes the customized roadmap for coaching sessions.

Coaching

The EMPOWER intervention plan will include customized goals and strategies to improve:

  • Communication
  • Social/Play Skills
  • Adaptive Skills (sleep, eating/feeding, toilet-training, etc.)
  • Behavioral challenges (tantrums, biting, transitions, etc.)

During each weekly live session, parents/caregivers receive live coaching with their child to implement the strategies. After each module completion or 6 sessions have been completed, the child’s progress is re-assessed, and further recommendations are provided.
